10 Ways to Relieve Menstrual Cramps

Hi ladies!

So being a woman I understand how hard it is to deal with menstrual pain. I’m a monthly complainant myself. It doesn’t matter what our body weight is, or how long do we menstruate, period cramps can take a toll on us every time. Most of the women find it very painful and uncomfortable.

The reason behind the pain is the contraction of the uterus. When the uterus lining starts shedding itself off, it creates movements of contraction to let the blood flow out of the vagina. Some get cramps before their periods, some get throughout their periods. They are usually at their worst, during heavy flow in the first few days. Sometimes it gets very difficult to pass on the day because of them. Whether its a school going girl or a working woman, life becomes hard during menstrual pain. But the good thing is that it’s very common and has plenty of remedies to deal with it.

  1. You can keep heating pads on your belly or lower back during cramps. As heat helps in relaxing the muscles and eases the pain.

  2. Do light exercises. It could be anything, even a 20 mins walk, aerobic dance or yoga will release endorphins which are, let me tell you, natural pain killers. People who regularly exercise, have fewer cramps compared to the ones who don’t.

  3. Take hot water showers. It helps many women who suffer pain throughout their bodies. Hot showers not only ease the pain but also calm our mood swings down for better.

  4. Eat hot food. A glass of hot milk works very well in easing the menstrual pain.

  5. Cut off caffeine, alcohol, and salt from your diet as they only make our cramps worse.

  6. Eat healthy like Omega-3 fatty acids, fruits, vegetables, proteins, and whole grains. Menstrual cramps leave us weak and exhausted, so during this time, we can’t compromise on our diet. Eating healthy will give us strength and help in recovering blood loss.

  7. Herbal teas are anti-inflammatory in nature, meaning, they help in countering pain and reduce bloating of the stomach.

  8. A pinch of turmeric and cinnamon in your drink or meal can be helpful during this time of menstruation. So make sure you add this in your diet, especially a warm glass of milk with a pinch of turmeric, which is the best Indian remedy for cramps.

  9. If period cramps are the nightmare, then acupressure is the daydream.

  10. If all these remedies don’t help, then you can go to the last and the best solution, painkillers. Painkillers are not very healthy, that’s the reason I kept it for the last. But if you don’t have any other option, then yes, painkillers are the ultimate solution.

Different ways help different women. For instance, a workout may help but for some, it may not. It all depends on the individuality. So do what helps you. Also, help the ladies around you so that we can all overcome this pain together. Remember to stay hydrated and take very good care of yourself, physically as well as mentally.
